The illustrations for the "Divine Comedy" were commissioned by the Italian government to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Dante's birth. Dalí, despite his deep knowledge of Dante's work, did not limit himself to illustrating the content, but based on it, reflected his personal world, obsessions and visions in a surrealistic style with reference to the Renaissance and Baroque.
