This is a magnificent work from the perspective of editing, showing the reign of the Swedish King Charles X Gustav (1622-1660). Due to the fact that his rule covers the period of the Swedish invasion of Poland, most of the book is devoted to Polish affairs and is an invaluable source for the history of the Republic of the Poland years 1655-1660. The book is decorated with beautiful chalcographies made by famous European art masters , by drawings of Eryka Dahlbergha (1629-1703) - engineer, intendant artist who accompanied the King of Sweden in hostilities.
The author of the original engraving is:
Erik Jonsson Dahlberg (1625-1703) - Swedish Field Marshal, official, diplomat, officer, historian, cartographer, artilleryman, military engineer, baron, and then count, governor, builder, politician, traveler, architect and illustrator.
In 1656, he was invited by the Swedish King Charles X Gustav. Dahlberg arrived in Poland shortly before the Battle of Warsaw; At that time he created the first of a series of his numerous drawings that immortalized dozens of Polish cities and towns.
